Are There Real Life Vampires?

Bram Stoker's DraculaImage by Ben Templesmith via Flickr

Do you believe in vampires, or are they just myth?

Whatever you think, the stories of vampires drinking human blood have been told for hundreds of years. Most traditional tales originate from Central Europe (Transylvania) and the Slavic countries of the north.

Many people believe that Transylvania and vampires were inventions of Bram Stoker and the film industry, but stories of vampires have been around a lot longer than books, or films.

Central European countries like Hungary, Romania and others still push the Dracula link and there are even vampire holidays and vampire hotels.

Near to my home is a small village that is known for its vampire. Croglin is a small village in a farming area and stories of a real live vampire have been part of the oral legend since the middle of the seventeenth century. The story is published here: The Croglin Vampire.

The story is very detailed and I am tempted to believe it.

What do you think?

  1. I know through out history there have been several accounts of humans drinking blood for various reasons. There has been many people that have tried to carry on this behavior with out understanding why it was done in the first place. Who knows if they exsist. I tend not to think so, and that means alot seeing I am always trying to convince someone that some spirit has left them a message lol!!! I do however believe that there are things out there that are not desirable that could easily be confused with this creature. In my hometown we had a witch. Moll Dyer was her name and people believe that her hand print is in a stone that is now infront of the courthouse in the center of that town! I dont know if I believe in her either but I can tell you there is a hand print in that stone.
